Some pics from the week

I opened up Jake's gym for the first time because he's been a lot more awake during the day. I don't think he really appreciates it yet. In fact, I think I was much more intrigued than he was---the thing is really cool. Here he is enjoying looking at himself in the mirror. Those who know Kevin and I, know we like to watch TV together. In fact, we've had conversations about how we're going to have to make an effort to turn the TV off more because we don't want Jake to always be glued to it. Anyhow, here are father and son enjoying some TV together--at least father is enjoying the TV. I don't think Jake can see that far yet. Isn't it funny they are posed alike? I promise we didn't set that up!
Here's my very favorite picture. Many of you know that our pediatrician has had a "minor concern" regarding Jake's weight. Due to this concern, we've been to see him for two additional weight checks and have been on a tight feeding schedule, including waking Jake up in the middle of the night to eat. Monday we went for our weight check and he weighed 9 pounds 1 ounce!! This is one whole pound more than ten days prior. It was such a relief for us, and we are so proud he is growing to be a big boy. This bath pic shows his growing belly as well as his growing thighs. I'm determined to get my chubby baby sooner or later!

Future Hoop It Up Champs

On Saturday, James, Amber, and Kolt Russell came to visit Jake. James is one of Kevin's very best friends. They lived together in Gainesville growing up. Even though James had to move away with his family, the two remained friends and were reunited as college roommates. James and Amber also have an older son, Kelton, but he stayed in Waco for this visit. Here are the two boys. Kolt was born on September 9, so he is about 4 1/2 months old. Kevin and I were amazed by how big he looks. Jake was obviously very unhappy in this pic, while Kolt is just laid back and chillin'. Kevin and James have played in a 3 on 3 basketball tournament together nearly every year called Hoop It Up, so we were talking about how our boys could follow in their dads' footsteps one day and play together. Here are Amber and James each with Jake. Thank ya'll so much for coming down to visit. It was really great to see you, and we really appreciate your love and support.

3 weeks old

Jake is now 3 weeks old. To celebrate, we went to his first Leander Lions JV basketball game to watch Dad coach. The game was at Cedar Park HS, only 5 minutes from our house, so it was a nice way to start our many basketball outings. I tried to tell Jake he needed to cheer Dad on, but he was more interested in sleeping. For our first sports outing, it was important to dress the part. One of the girls in our Huddle at church, Abbie, made this adorable onesie. We have lots of onesies personally made by our huddle. I'll show off more in an upcoming post. Here are a couple pictures to show how big Jake is getting. It's kind of hard for me to tell how much he's changing since I'm with him daily. I do think he's slowly but surely gaining weight. We'll have the true test on Monday, when we go to the pediatrician for a weight check.

Wow, watching dad coach is so exhausting. I'm ready for a nap....

My sweet and handsome guys

I want to take a minute to brag on the two guys in my life. The first Wednesday home from the hospital, Kevin came home from work with these flowers. The card read, "Mom--Thanks for everything. I love you! Jake" I was in tears when I saw them. I couldn't ask for more in a husband, and now I'm blessed to have a beautiful son. Kevin and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary the day after Jake was born. Now every year of my life will start with reminders of who is most important to me. January 2 is the birthday of my first son, and January 3 is the wedding anniversary of the man I love with everything and who I couldn't imagine my life without. Kevin, I love you so much and I'm already overjoyed by seeing what an amazing dad you are. Jake, it's truly amazing to hold a miracle in my hands everyday. Thank you for giving me the gift of motherhood. I love you.
We actually ventured out to church the past two Sundays. Last Sunday, we slipped in a little late to the 9:00 service and slipped out after a few introductions when service was over. Jake was asleep the entire time--it was a breeze. Here is Jake's first church outfit. This Sunday, we attempted to make it to the 9:00 service, but plans were changed when Jake had a spit-up fest right as it was time to leave. We arrived for class in outfit #3, and left after 2nd service in outfit #4--pajamas. This time, Jake was awake nearly the entire time and needed to eat twice. Things weren't nearly as easy as last week, but it feels nice to be out as a family.
Here they are.....I love you guys. Thank you for making me a proud wife and mom. God has truly blessed our family.

Wow! Look at all the people who love me...

Jake is blessed to be surrounded by loving and caring friends and family. He was greeted into this world by people who have already been praying for him. Here are just a few of the people who love and care for him. Of course, I have to start with his grandparents. These are my parents who live in Aledo (west of Fort Worth), Grandpapa and Grandmama.Kevin's parents live in Gainesville, Big T and Nana Jake's only blood-related aunt and uncle, Chad and Cassy. I say this because although I am an only child, I definitely have a few close friends who will take-on "aunt" roles in Jake's life. One of Kevin's cousins lives in San Antonio and made the trip with her family to meet Jake at the hospital. This is Kelly (Kevin's cousin), her husband Rodney, and their kids, Ryan and Brittany. I LOVE this family. Kevin has lots of great cousins, but I feel like I've had a great opportunity to especially get to know this family since we live pretty close together. They are a great Christian family and have done an amazing job with their kids. Kelly is definitely someone I will call on for parenting advice.Brian and Elizabeth Bramlett came over our first day home. They live less than 5 minutes away. It's really cool to have good friends so close by.Chez and Cody also dropped Jake a visit at the hospital. Chez and Cody are very special friends to us. We mesh really well as friends, plus we have the opportunity to be huddle leaders together. Although Jake has definitely changed our lives, we hope that his addition doesn't alter our friendship with the Dishmans. This is Wilson and Tanya Robertson. They are definitely one-up on us with parenting experience. They have two adorable daughters, Mia and Ally. It's been a joy seeing them and their family grow.

David and Merry Culp host the young marrieds care group we attend. We are so blessed to have their insight and guidance. In many ways, they serve as parents to many of our young married class whose parents live in other cities and states. Thank you, David and Merry, for your continuous generosity, hospitality, love and prayers. Here is Joe Pollard with Jake. Kim has actually visited Jake twice--in the hospital and at home, but somehow we did not get a picture. Joe and Kim are special to us largely due to their love and support through some of the more difficult parts of our attempt to start a family and pregnancy. Thanks to Kim, I have a wonderful doctor who delivered Jake. They have a beautiful son, Ryan, who just turned 1. We are excited to join them in the endeavor of raising a son.

Caren George came to visit, taking a break from her new addition, Anderson. The Georges just welcomed a baby boy into their family. Anderson is exactly 4 weeks older than Jake--an automatic friendship is formed.

What a difference a week makes

So, as Cassy said Jake arrived. I won't go into all the labor and delivery details, but basically I went in to labor at home around 6:00 AM on Friday, January 2, and he arrived at 7:17 PM on Friday, January 2. God has blessed us with a healthy boy and I couldn't ask for anything more. It's hard to believe that just over a week ago, he was still in my tummy. Here is the last pregnant pic taken of me. This was taken on December 31, two days before he was born.
Here's our new family, just minutes after his arrival. We came home from the hospital on Sunday. We were welcomed by both sets of grandparents and Uncle Chad and Aunt Cassy. I immediately wanted to show him his room. Here is his first experience being rocked in the glider.

Introducing Mr. Jake!

Cassy here again...
Our little baby Jake arrived healthy and safe on Friday, January 2nd at 7:15 pm weighing 8 pounds, 2 ounces and 21 inches long. Kellie is doing great too! You wouldn't know by looking at her that this is her first baby... she's a natural! She's got her hands a little full, so I thought I would give you guys a quick update. I'll let her blog all the details later, but in the mean time here are a few pictures I took when they made their arrival at home.

Oh my goodness! I just want to eat him up!

It's a little difficult to find an outfit that fits him right now.

Cuddling up to daddy! Did I mention that Kevin's a natural too?

Home sweet home... the moment Skylar's (the dog) world was changed forever.

Look at these long toes! Where did he get these?

What a blessed mommy!
